Preventing Ozone:
Chemical Use
Here are a few tips to remember when using chemicals around the house and garage to help prevent the formation of ground-level ozone. Even simple actions like these add up to big impacts on reducing air pollution and keeping our air clean for everyone to enjoy!
Some products that you use at your home or office are made with smog-forming chemicals that can evaporate into the air when you use them.
- USE chemicals wisely. Be smart when handling any household or garden chemicals, even common ones. FOLLOW the manufacturer’s INSTRUCTIONS to prevent chemicals being used in a way that could be harmful to people, pets or the environment. The label is the law.
- CAP & store safely. After use, be sure to tightly CAP all cleaners, paints, and solvents and STORE them in a cool place to prevent evaporation into the air.
- LOOK for low- VOC paints. Environmentally safe paints and cleaning products whenever possible. LOW VOC paints and solvents emit fewer precursors to ground-level ozone formation.
